Reader’s Question:

I may not have any political arguments or legitimate social issues when it comes to auto insurance rates being determined unfairly as a consumer but I personally feel that these categories in Burke, Virginia are discriminatory. Can you give me any idea how these auto insurance companies determine premium rates?

Burke, VA

We can list quite a number of arguments to support the case that car insurance rates are discriminatory in Burke, Virginia. I also believe that they discriminate based on age whereas the oldest and the youngest pay more regardless the fact that they can be good drivers.

You can also say that they discriminate on the basis of gender wherein women pay less than men. On top of that unmarried people pay more and since certain groups are not allowed to marry, this becomes really unfair for them as well.

Auto insurance companies in Virginia do not hide the fact that there is discrimination in determining insurance rates because part of their business system is to do some calculated risk. How can they set their pricing if this companies would not discriminate based on age, gender or marital status? Fact is auto insurance premium rates are calculated risk factors that are set on specific consumers based on the mentioned factors.

I believe that the more politically correct term would be classification rather than discrimination in Virginia.
